One of the first UK House classics from 1990 by Bocca Juniors - who included Andy Weatherall and Terry Farley.
The Bocca Juniors were a natural extension of what was happening at the end of the 1980s. Andy Weatherall and others were chronicling the nascent dance scene in the Boys Own Fanzine (see previous post), DJing its soundtrack and running the clubs, especially Shoom. Music was the obvious next step.
It was at the Shoom Club where Pete Heller met Terry Farley and together with Andy Weatherall, collaborated in their first co-production. Along with engineer Hugo Nicholson and singer Anna Haigh, they released two singles as Bocca Juniors on Boys Own Records, "Raise (53 Steps to Heaven)" in 1990 followed by the lesser known "Substance" (I've never heard it, so if anyone has a copy...).
In 1992, the group all went their own ways. Heller and Farley continued to work together remixing and producing for the likes of The Farm and Primal Scream. Weatherall went off to form Sabres of Paradise.

I've got substance (on vinyl) and an mp3 which I'm fairly sure I downloaded from the great stx at audio.out blog. I'm sure he'd refresh the link if it's expired. It's not that good to be honest...
Agreed - it's pretty dull to be frank.
Great blog, btw, keep it up!
x
Substance is up on youtube, I'd never heard it either....great blog by the way, I'll link you up
cheers
gone - any chance of a re-up please?
@ Guernseygareth
Because I'm a good mood, I've re-upped. But normally, when they're gone, they're gone. Download away...
Are you still in a good mood? 'Cause despite what you've already written I have to ask: PLEASE re-up? MediaFire and ZShare won't expire... but perhaps that's the reason you're using the devil's own file-sharing solution. Anyway, no sweat if you don't - just emissions from other regions: my tear ducts. (Is any of this working?)
Please pop over to http://civiliseddisobedience.blogspot. com.
Ok, I can't bear tears. So, for the final time, I've re-upped. Enjoy
There are Moody Boys mixes of Substance which are awesome. And Tackhead mixes of Raise...
Pretty please for a re-up of the Heavenly Rap version of Raise? It's next to impossible to find and it will remind me of waving the Balearic flag in Slough in 1990.
Look out for it on Twitter http://twitter.com/Ctel
